The Beasts of ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’

What are these mythological creatures that prowl around the wizarding (and muggle, thanks Comic-Con teaser trailer for ‘Fantastic Beasts’)? Entertainment Weekly has caught some of them on camera, as well as the official site for the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ movie. Here are a couple:

The Niffler, from EW: “Look something shiny!” That’s what’s going through the mind of a Niffler. The mischievous critter looks like a cross between a mole and a duck-billed platypus and loves anything that glitters. The Niffler will go after your jewelry and coins with burrowing and destructive ferocity. It’s treasures are stored in the pouch on its belly, which – like Hermione’s bag in the Harry Potter films – holds far more than seems possible. “One of the big inspirations was the honey badger,” Fantastic Beasts visual effects supervisor Christian Manz says. “We saw some great footage of a honey badger raiding somebody’s house with a completely insatiable desire to find food and nothing would get in its way.”

The Thunderbird, from EW: “Here’s what we’re hearing on this one: “The Thunderbird is a large, regal avian creature native to the arid climate of Arizona. Its head is similar to that of an eagle or, in the wizarding world, a Hippogriff. Its multiple powerful wings shimmer with cloud-and sun-like patterns and their flapping can create storms. Thunderbirds can also sense danger. After rescuing a Thunderbird from traffickers in Egypt, Newt named him Frank and promised to return him to his natural habitat in Arizona.” Also, the Thunderbird is the sigil of one of the American wizarding school Ilvermorny’s student houses.”

“Harry Potter Go” game? Fans petition and whether it worked

Nearly 50,000 fans so far have petitioned for a Harry Potter version of the augmented reality app game “Pokemon Go.” Did it work?

One of Niantic’s senior developers said to JTHX News:

“We have acquired the rights for the app. The demand for this title was absolutely insane, so we figured we’d give it a shot. If we’re lucky we might see a launch by early 2017, but it’s hard to tell this early in the project.

We want to do something with schools of witchcraft and wizardry, similar to Pokéstops in Pokemon GO. As well as a quest system, and possibly large scale completely interactive events, but no promises. That’s all I can say.”

Sounded promising! However, The Telegraph UK posted the following “No Go: Harry Potter version of Pokemon Go isn’t happening any time soon” which states that JTHX News may not be a reliable source. Bummer.

What does your Ilvermorny House say about you?

jsdfd

There has been a lot of speculation on what the new Ilvermorny houses released mean (you can now get sorted online on Pottermore), and whether there is any equivalence between Hogwarts Houses and Ilvermorny Houses… the last to which J.K. Rowling tweeted a negative response:

However, what does the combination of both houses say?

Janet Manley of SparkLife presents the “Sorting Key.”

And The Real Protar managed to make a full list of every possible combinations of Hogwarts + Ilvermorny House. So, what do your Houses say about you?
